What Former Coaches are Saying
Home
There are countless basketball clinics, summer camps, and AAU programs that your son or daughter can join. So what makes our approach at improving a player’s individual skills so effective?
We believe it is because of Coach Jim Lutz’s unique experience of having played for some of the game’s most successful and respected coaches who emphasized individual skill development. Coach Lutz’s versatility as a player (he once played all five positions during a Division I college game) has also given him a unique perspective into the nuances of each position on the basketball floor – an advantage that allowed him to regularly “hold his own” against future NBA guards and Hall-of-Fame centers.
By placing an emphasis on point guard skills to ALL players – no matter their size, strength, speed or experience – Coach Lutz has developed numerous players who have gone on to become All-County, All-State, and Division 1 scholarship players.

There are countless basketball clinics and summer camps out there for your son or daughter to attend. So what makes our approach to improving a basketball player’s skills any different from all the rest?
We believe it is because of Jim Lutz’s unique experience of having played four different positions at the college Division 1 and professional European levels, while learning from some of the game’s most successful and respected coaches. This rare combination of experiences has shaped the way Coach Lutz approaches the game – by placing an emphasis on teaching point guard skills to ALL players – no matter their size, strength, speed or experience.
As a player who once played all five positions in a college game, Lutz had to carefully study the nuances of every position on the court while competing against some of the game’s all-time great players. At 6’6” tall, Lutz was not a “natural” point guard by any stretch of the imagination. But after receiving exceptional coaching and lots of encouragement as a youth, he taught himself not only how to be a point guard, but also how to use the skills and mindset of a point guard to his full advantage not matter what position he found himself playing during the course of a game – whether he was going up against an All-American point guard or a Hall-of-Fame center.
What Former Coaches are Saying
Coach Lutz has had the opportunity to sit courtside during private workouts for NBA greats like Kevin Durant, Dwayne Wade, Derrick Rose and Gilbert Arenas, as well as college players from elite schools like Duke, West Virginia and the University of Maryland. What Coach Lutz has come to recognize is that many current youth coaches simply do not know how to bring out the best in aspiring players by emphasizing basic skill development.
Coach Lutz has been working with his own son, Joey, for several years. Joey went on to lead his Damascus High School varsity team to their first Regional Championships in 40 years, and their first State Title game in 70 years. Joey earned All-County and All-State honors, while setting Maryland state playoff records for most 3-pointers in a single game (10) and in a playoff (22). Joey is currently being recruited to play college basketball by numerous universities. His highlight video can be seen here:
Over the past couple of years Coach Lutz has had the opportunity to sit courtside during private workouts for such NBA greats as Kevin Durant, Dwayne Wade, Derrick Rose and Gilbert Arenas, as well as college players like Duke’s Mason Plumlee and Ryan Kelly. What Coach Lutz has noticed is that the same things he learned and practiced as a youth still hold true today. It is this fundamental approach to skill development – while implementing the latest drills and techniques used by the greatest players in the game today – that forms the foundation of what Coach Lutz teaches at his basketball clinics to kids of all ages and ability levels.
